DIVIDE

BAND BIO

Hailing originally from Castlemilk in Glasgow, Divide have been playing passionate old-school hardcore since 1997. Taking influence from the likes of Warzone, Sick of It All, Agnostic Front and Cold as Life, their early material blended the sounds of NYHC, melodic-hardcore such as Ignite and Avail with elements of Oi!- their sound was hard but with a melodic edge. They continue to refine that sound with their unique mix of influences.

They were one of the original Glasgow Hardcore (GHC) bands, formed a core part of the Scottish and overall UK hardcore scene in the late 90s and made strong links with London bands Knuckledust and Ninebar. After releasing a split EP with Recidivist in 1998, they went on to self-release 'Glasgow Hardcore' on CD in 2000. Their first official album (CD) 'When All Else Fails' was released on Rucktion Records in 2003. The band split in 2004, playing their 'final show' in Glasgow in 2004 but reformed in 2014 for gigs with Merauder, Judge and Sheer Terror and have been together since, with Matt joining in 2016 after the Sheer Terror show. They recorded a short demo in 2017- two of these tracks are included as bonus tracks on the new album Try Again.

There have been several minor lineup changes over the years, with Ali joining in 2000, Paul in 2003 and Matt in 2016. Their members have played in several other Scottish punk, metal and hardcore bands- Broken Oath (Ali, James); Broccoli, Lifer, Engage (Paul); Oi Polloi, In Decades Decline, The Process (Matt), Burning Scars of Betrayal (Tam, James).
